Who we are

Oakums Narrowboats Ltd is the controller of personal information collected through this website and during enquiries, consultations, boat commissions and aftercare.

Oakums Narrowboats Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales under company number 12092253. Our registered office is 71-75 Shelton Street, London, England, WC2H 9JQ.

You can contact us at liam@oakums.co.uk or on 07463 088988.

Information we collect

We may collect:

  • your name, email address, telephone number and contact preferences;
  • information you enter into an enquiry form, including the boat range, type of enquiry and details of your plans;
  • correspondence and records of consultations, quotations and decisions;
  • information needed to prepare or perform a boat-building contract, including specifications, payment and delivery information;
  • aftercare, warranty and service records;
  • technical information such as IP address, browser, device, approximate location, referral source, pages viewed and cookie choices; and
  • information needed to meet legal, accounting, insurance, conformity and safety obligations.

Please do not provide personal information about another person unless you are authorised to do so.

How we use your information and our lawful bases

We use personal information to:

  • respond to enquiries and arrange consultations or viewings. We do this to take steps at your request before entering into a contract and, where applicable, for our legitimate interest in responding to genuine business enquiries;
  • prepare quotations, specifications and contracts and manage a commissioned build. We do this to perform our contract with you or take requested pre-contract steps;
  • provide handover, aftercare, warranty and support. We do this to perform our contract and for our legitimate interest in supporting boats we have supplied;
  • maintain financial, tax, conformity, safety and business records. We do this to meet legal obligations and protect our legitimate business interests;
  • protect the website, prevent fraud and investigate misuse. We do this for our legitimate interest in maintaining secure services and, where relevant, to comply with legal obligations;
  • understand website performance through Google Analytics. We do this only with your consent; and
  • send optional marketing where you have asked to receive it or where it is otherwise permitted by law. An enquiry does not by itself give permission for unrelated marketing, and every marketing message will provide an opt-out.

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn.

Who we share information with

We may share information where necessary with:

  • website hosting, security, email and IT providers;
  • Google Analytics, but only when analytics consent has been given;
  • accountants, auditors, insurers, finance providers, legal advisers and other professional advisers;
  • hull builders, equipment suppliers, installers, delivery providers and other contractors involved in preparing a quotation or fulfilling an agreed commission;
  • conformity, certification, safety or inspection bodies where relevant; and
  • courts, regulators, law-enforcement bodies, tax authorities or other public bodies where disclosure is required or legally permitted.

We do not sell personal information.

International transfers

Some technology providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where this occurs, we require an appropriate legal transfer mechanism and relevant safeguards, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections.

How long we keep information

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including legal, accounting, warranty and dispute requirements.

As a working retention schedule:

  • general enquiries that do not lead to a commission: up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact;
  • quotations, contracts, project, payment and accounting records: normally at least six years after the relevant financial period or completion of the relationship;
  • warranty, aftercare and technical records: for the relevant warranty period and as needed to support the boat and establish, exercise or defend legal claims;
  • consented Google Analytics information: up to 14 months in the Analytics property, subject to Google's own processing and cookie settings; and
  • cookie-consent choices: six months before consent is requested again.

We may keep information for longer where required by law, an active dispute, insurance requirement or regulatory obligation.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of your personal information;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • ask us to delete information;
  • ask us to restrict how information is used;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive information you provided in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent; and
  • complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Some rights are subject to legal exemptions. We may need to confirm your identity before completing a request.

Automated decision-making

We do not use information collected through this website to make solely automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on people.

Children

Our boat-building services are not directed at children. Please do not submit information about a child unless it is necessary and you have authority to provide it.
